About Us

Mission Statement:

The US Foundation seeks to build community and support in the US among Atlantic College ex-students, parents, supporters, and friends. We embrace the Mission Statement adopted by Atlantic College and all the United World Colleges:
"UWC makes education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future."

As the pioneering United World College, Atlantic College is fully committed to achieving this through:

  • Global Citizenship
  • Environmental Responsibility
  • Life-Long Service
  • Transformative Education
  • Scholarships on Merit

Scholarships and fundraising:
In December 2007, we raised our first US foundation scholarship to Atlantic College, thanks to the generosity of ex-students, parents, and supporters of the school and its mission. We are committed to keep funding this scholarship by soliciting on-line giving by ex-students, parents, and friends of UWC Atlantic College.

We also support UWC Atlantic College through activities organized and hosted in various cities in the US. In February, 2008, we hosted a dinner in New York in honor of Neil Richards, as well as a reception for NY based ex-students. In 2006, we sponsored a dinner at the British Embassy in Washington, DC and a reception in San Francisco.

We are a 501-c (3) public charity, which means that gifts made by US tax payers are tax free to the extent permitted by law. All gifts are acknowledged in writing.

UWC Speakers series:

In 2006, the US Foundation launched the UWC Speakers Series in New York for AC and other UWC ex-students to gather and share experiences of mutual interest.

Our first Speakers Series event was a talk by AC ex-student Guido Schmidt-Traub about the United Nations millennium project.

Our 2007 Speakers Series event was a screening of the documentary film, "Fourth World War" directed by UWC America West ex-student Richard Rowley.

In 2008 our speaker was UWC Adriatic ex-student and journalist Chrystia Freeland, who spoke on "Globalization and the changing media landscape".
