UWC ATLANTIC COLLEGE ACHIEVES RECORD RESULTS
31st August 2011
We, at UWC Atlantic College, are celebrating the achievement of this year’s graduating students, who have equalled the best results on record. Our students study for the International Baccalaureate Diploma, which is an increasingly popular alternative to A-levels and a qualification that the college helped to develop back in the late 1960’s.
Acting Principal, Paul Motte said, ‘This year’s performance by UWC Atlantic College students in their IB exams equals the best on record. This is reassuring and demonstrates just reward for the hard word and commitment that both students and staff have towards the academic element of their two years at the college. I congratulate them all on their success and wish them well wherever their future takes them.’
UWC Atlantic College students achieved an average IB score of 35.7, with 20% of those students achieving 40 points or more. The world average this year was 28.8 points.
These excellent results have once again enabled the international students, who come from over 70 countries including the UK, to achieve places at their desired universities. Of this year’s university offers Sally Norris, Director of University Admissions at the college said, ‘Once again this was a successful year despite the changing fee structure, general financial squeeze and increased competition. 16% of the year group received offers from Oxbridge or Ivy League institutions.’
This year students have accepted offers of places at Harvard, Yale, Oxford, Cambridge, Princeton, MIT, Stanford, Williams, Middlebury, Warwick, UCL and St Andrews, amongst others. In keeping with UWC Atlantic College’s reputation for educational innovation some of this year’s students have taken up places at exciting new education establishments worldwide such as Quest in Canada and NYU Abu Dhabi.
