UWC Atlantic College Time Based Art event

12th December 2011

This evening, organised by Lucy Male, Head of Visual Arts & Media Service, showcased the talent of students across the board at UWC Atlantic College, in particular Group 6 Visual Arts, Music & Theatre academic subjects and the many students who take full advantage of the diverse Creative Action and Service programme key to the Intenational Baccalaureate.

Service students participation included Arts Centre service, who managed lighting, PA & projections and Media Service who presented films and brought together the time based edits for the event. Vegard Haveland of Lifeguard Service for example, created a powerful film celebrating the Kurt Hahn experience.

The evening opened with a dramatic 'Wear anything but sweatshop', carefully painted and directed piece by Austrian student, Hannah Platzer, who with a team of artists and theatre students created 12 full bodypainted students who performed to the narration of Vincent Mwashumbe from Kenya, who carefully described with each model the human, global and social impact of consumerism and sweatshops.

An exceptional musical performance on the Marimba, by Danish music student Rune Oster Mortensen was extremely well received, as was a dynamic Michael Jackson inspired performance by Hamdan Mubarak Hatrash from the UAE.

Activities presenting their work included Animation, Digital Photography and Dance. Animations included; stop motion claymation, pixillation and 2D animated sequences.  Digital sequences featured drawn and painted projections set to original music recorded and composed by students at the college.  Short films celebrated multiple exposure, underwater photography, time-lapse and first person filming.

A highly successful event contributed by many talented students and staff at UWCA Atlantic College and appreciated by many.

This event also coincides with 'Digital Dialogues': An exploration into Time Based Art, by three Atlantic College Visual Arts staff (Lucy Male, Maddy Dutkowski and Suzanne Davis).

This continues until December 15th Mon-Fri 10am-4pm and also open for performances.
