Personal Statement
My name is Fareed Massoud, and I am thrilled to have won a spot at UWC Atlantic College. I say won because it has been quit competitive back home, in Cairo, where there were over 70 applicants aiming for 4 spots offered by different UWCs from around the globe.
So far life at the college has been fascinating and it amazes me how much the college takes account of the activities and services provided for a truly rich experience from all aspects of learning not just the academic bit. I am really fortunate and privileged to have had this 180 degree change in my life that I must say did not see it coming.
I am really glad I speak four languages quit well because it enables me to speak and socialise with a variety of students in their mother tongue here and have been really exited to finally make use of all that hard work.
What more can I say? Well I’m really fond of arts, love the countryside and the gloomy weather, like most of my subjects and don’t know what to peruse in my career for the moment and could not be happier in this point of my life.
Dear sponsors,
I can’t start expressing my contentment of attending one of the highest ranked schools in the United Kingdom, as well as one that offers the IB as a curriculum. I’ve had three years of experience in the IB’s Mid-Year Programme in French back in Cairo in a pleasant school called Oasis de Maadi, before which I attended le Collège de la Sainte Famille popularly refered to as ‘Les Jésuites’ which is a French catholic school, so I’ve basically had all my previous education in French while living in an Arabic speaking country. I’ve joined Media Service against everyone’s advice, but I can tell you that I’m pleased with my choice – I like fiddling around with technology and hope of becoming a director someday or contributing something to the art at least during my lifetime. I’m currently taking Economics, Chemistry and English (Language and Literature) at Higher Level – Maths, Political Thought and Spanish at Standard Level. I’m really interested and considering switching to History of the Middle East HL dropping Chemistry and replacing Politics with Environmental Systems - but I guess Chemistry is a solid stand alone subject and politics is quite thought-provoking.
Well I guess it’s time to leave you now, but please do rejoice for you’ve changed my life’s angle by 360˚ all for the good.
P.S.: I’ve set up my bed against the wall as opposed to it just floating in the right corner of the room vertically, have destroyed some cloths in the dryer (infuriating) and have been going to Cardiff every other week for some fresh air and super-fast public internet.
