UWC Atlantic College is a residential sixth form college, that enjoys a spectacular location at St. Donat’s Castle, perched above the Bristol Channel approximately 20 miles west of Cardiff. We currently have 350 students aged between 17 – 19 years from over 90 nationalities studying the International Baccalaureate (IB) and taking part in an outstanding co-curricular programme of community service and outdoor education. Reporting to the IT Network Managers, you will be responsible for helping maintain the college’s ICT and audio-visual equipment, dealing with any issues that occur and assisting with the development and implementation of new projects.
The college has a virtualised Windows 2016 domain, with around 240 Windows 10 64-bit PCs.
Email is handled by two Exchange 2016 servers running in parallel to provide high availability and filtered by Clearswift Secure Email Gateway.
The college has a 1000 Mbit leased line internet connection. The firewall is a Smoothwall appliance, and all network switches are HP. There is a Ruckus managed wireless network; students are encouraged to use their own devices (laptops, phones) to access the internet and College resources, and around 1500 devices are connected this way. Staff and students can remotely access resources using Microsoft Remote Desktop Services. Data backup uses Veeam. The network is divided into VLANs, with wireless clients and telephony on separate VLANs. The college uses iSAMS to manage student data. There are various servers running departmental software.
The College has recently migrated to a hosted VOIP Telephone system, which sits behind its own firewall and has a web based management console. Skype for Business has also been implemented.
G-Suite for Education is also used as an online collaboration platform between all staff and students. This is a strong enabler for BYOD use within the college.
Security on the colleges systems are governed by a variety of technologies which include; Group Policy, AppLocker, BitLocker and Sophos Central.
Along with good communication skills and the ability to prioritise and troubleshoot effectively, you will need to have experience of some or all of the following technologies: Windows Server, Exchange, Active Directory, Hyper-V, VMware, HP network switches and firewalls, VLANs, PC hardware.
Experience of any of the following technologies would also be advantageous: SQL Server, Sage, G-Suite, Veeam, IIS, IP and POTS telephony.
Salary: circa £22,000 - £25,000 per annum.
