MENA Conference 2017

20/11/2017
MENA Conference at UWC Atlantic College

"Growing Up in the Hummus Kingdom"

(The first full student led conference in the history of UWC Atlantic College)

This year's MENA (Middle East & North Africa) conference is happening this weekend (24th and 25th of November). The conference is going to have many exciting visitors - including UWC Atlantic College alumnus Amit Meyer from Israel (class of 2009).

The visitors will give lectures and run workshops to all of the students and staff of the College.

Second year student Mohammed Akel explains how the conference will dive deep into the MENA region culture, "It will include politics, religion, food, traditions and stories of the people who are from the Middle East." Mohammed carries on to explain how the conference is also going to have a human library, and a MENA simulation - both happening for the first time in the history of Atlantic College.

Over 40 students will be participating in this conference, from helping with technical issues to running workshops for the whole community.

This year the students have decided to name the conference, "growing up in the hummus kingdom." The organisers explain that hummus is a great reason to sit around the table, have a good meal and talk to each other, and indeed the students organising the event all grow up in the hummus kingdom.

The organisers hope the students and the staff enjoy the conference, learn new things, listen to each other, doubt the opinions and share their thoughts.

Everybody at the College is looking forward to this unique and inspirational event!
