Vale for Africa 10th Anniversary Dinner

Vale for Africa charity concert

The Vale for Africa charity celebrated its 10th year anniversary at a dinner and dance hosted in Cowbridge by the Bear Hotel. In all raising £5,300 for inspiring projects in the Tororo districts of Uganda.

It was reported that more than 120 people enjoyed the successful dinner and dance on 9 March 2018.

Guests included the mayors of the Vale Council, Cowbridge and Llantwit Major Town Councils and Vale AM Jane Hutt, who is a founder member of the charity.

The fundraising evening included a moving performance by Atlantic College students with songs from across the world, prompting several encores.

Gareth Kiddie, chair and trustee of Vale for Africa, said: ‘Our 10th anniversary dinner and dance was a truly wonderful evening. We were raising funds for our partner projects in Uganda including eye care, library resources, piped water to schools, staff exchange and motorbike ambulances. We also support a student from Tororo at Atlantic College.

All these projects would not be possible without the involvement of our Uganda partner charity ACET (Advancement of Community Empowerment in Tororo) guiding us in our work. Thanks also to the Eyecare team, Cowbridge Rotary and to all our volunteers.’

Jane Hutt AM said: ’I was fortunate to spend part of my childhood in Uganda and it is great to be able to give something back as a trustee of Vale for Africa, supported by Hub Cymru Africa, seeing such positive results after 10 years.’

'I am learning that all we need is the right kind of motivation in order to pursue our dreams.’
