National Beach Lifeguard Qualification for students

National Beach Lifeguard Qualification for students

Barry Island saw 22 UWC Atlantic College students descend upon its main beach this weekend, as they took the final part of their exam towards their National Beach Lifeguard Qualification.

All candidates were successful on what turned out to be a glorious, sunny day.

Our newly qualified lifeguard team will now be patrolling local beaches this summer, as part of the RNLI provision for the Vale of Glamorgan.

They will finally get a chance to put their skills into practice after a year of intensive training.

It was with pride that we saw them gel and come together as a team today, and retiring staff member -and long-time Surf Lifesaving Association of Wales supporter, trainer and examiner - Paul Belcher will remember them fondly as the last batch of Atlantic College lifeguards he ever put through their paces.

Their skills, knowledge, vigilance and cool-headedness will no-doubt help make our beaches safer this summer.

'I am learning that all we need is the right kind of motivation in order to pursue our dreams.’
