On Sunday 4 January 2015 UWC Atlantic College hosted the 40th Anniversary event of the South Wales Orienteering Club.
Attended by over 40 members, the event was close to the heart of many UWC Atlantic College members; the club was founded 40 years ago by an ex teacher of the college and the first official club event was held at the college using the grounds as the course.
Pia Blake (UWC Atlantic College) class of 2015 from Canada, a talented orienteering competitor, recently teamed up with members of the club to restore the relationship with the sport and the college and update the maps used for orienteering.
Tom Partridge, Atlantic Outdoor Director said,
"We hope that the benefit of this partnership and work by both Pia and the club can help to start an interest for the energetic, fun and exciting sport and I look forward to working with Pia and the South Wales Orienteering Club to organise some kind of event for our students in the near future."
The college grounds are regularly used for student co-curricular service sessions and activities along with the summer programme for external client booking. Having the updated map of the area in an official format helps and supports these events and activities.
