UWC Atlantic College students discuss current world issues at the United World Conference

United World Conference

Led by a dedicated organising committee from the Global Faculty, Peace Council and the MUN Secretariat, UWC Atlantic College students introduced a Diploma Period that focused on the mission by learning about different countries, discussing current world issues and putting into practice students’ abilities for diplomacy and collaboration.

The United World Conference ran from the 28 January through to the 30 January and included key external speakers. Twenty students and accompanying staff members from the colleges Associated Schools Programme partner schools, located in Birmingham, Liverpool and South Wales, attended. Local Llantwit Major comprehensive was also sent a delegation. As well, the college welcomed guests from the Ashoka organisation

Together with UWC Atlantic College students, the guests helped to broaden the sense of purpose and outreach beyond the college walls, as young people from around the world debated.

‘From the person who donated £20, to the person who donated £2000 - thank you. I am extremely grateful and indebted… I will do everything in my power to make sure that the contribution made is going to mean something more…’
