Diwali celebrations for students in Wales

Happy Diwali to everyone who is celebrating in Wales and across the world. Diwali (also known as Deepawali) is the festival of lights and is one of the largest festivals in India.

On the 09 November a Reception to mark Diwali took place in the Wales Millennium Centre (WMC), Cardiff, hosted by the First Minister of Wales, Carwyn Jones. Attendees included students from UWC Atlantic College and teacher Ken Corn, members of the Indian community and Welsh businesses.  Guests were welcomed by the First Minister and the Indian Honorary Consul, Raj Aggarwal, and enjoyed a performance of classical dance.

‘From the person who donated £20, to the person who donated £2000 - thank you. I am extremely grateful and indebted… I will do everything in my power to make sure that the contribution made is going to mean something more…’

Sheryl Ofwona, Class of 2019, from Kenya
