Ashoka Young Changemakers Competition

Winners and Prizes

As part of our developing partnership with the Ashoka social entrepreneurial organisation, a ‘Young Changemakers’ competition has been run at Atlantic College.  The Peace Council at the college have helped to organise and run this collaborative initiative.  Special thanks to Kwan Yee Ng, class of 2016, from Hong Kong and Colton Bishop, class of 2016, from the United States of America.

The winning students and submissions were:

First Place: Karim Marzouq, class of 2017, from Egypt (Fodool)

As the winner, the student gets a whole day in Manchester with four very influential and amazing people from the Ashoka network – Ruth Ibegbuna (Ashoka Fellow), Raj Ruia (Ashoka Support Network), Ben Caldwell (Ashoka Support Network) and Stephen Crithlow (Ashoka Support Network).

Joint Second Place: Mandisa Chabwera, class of 2017, from Malawi (Because I Am A Girl)

Joint Second Place: Alina Glaubitz, class of 2017, from Germany (The UK in a Book-Shell)

These students were joint second place finalists. Their prize will be a day in the Ashoka UK. They will meet the Ashoka team, have one to one brainstorming sessions for their projects with a team member and attend a meeting with an Ashoka Fellow.

All three students will also be included in the Ashoka network and receive regular newsletters and updates from the social entrepreneurship world and get invitations to events.

UWC Atlantic College and the UWC movement are continuing to develop our dynamic strategic partnership with Ashoka.

'I am learning that all we need is the right kind of motivation in order to pursue our dreams.’

Marvellous John, class of 2016, from Nigeria
