This year the IB Regional Conference of Africa, Europe and the Middle East took place in Barcelona from the 6 to the 8 of October. The theme of the conference was ‘Learning Together’. Similar to previous years about 1,500 participants from most IB schools in the region met to listen to keynote speakers like Dame Ellen MacArthur and attend a variety of presentations and workshops. The conference is an excellent opportunity to learn about recent educational research, the latest developments in the IB or just do some networking with fellow teachers and administrators. Last year Gabor Vincze, our Head of Science and Phil Harrington, Head of Group 1 attended the conference. This year Gabor, who is also a member of the Environmental Faculty, inspired by last year’s conference decided to give a presentation titled ‘Learning sustainability together, a case study from UWC Atlantic College’. He introduced UWC Atlantic College’s new Environmental Education Programme delivered for Environmental Faculty students by him and a group of dedicated IB2 students. This is a pilot programme that is being delivered with the help of the students in the picture and if successful might be made available to the wider college community.
