Saddened to hear of the passing of M. Antonin Besse

Antonon Besse

Our staff and students were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of M. Antonin Besse, but his family and friends can be heartened to know his legacy will live on for generations to come.  It was through his generosity in donating St Donat’s Castle to the governing body of UWC Atlantic College in 1960 that the vision shared by Kurt Hahn and Air Marshal Sir Lawrance Darvall of an institution where education could be a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future was able to become a reality.  Mssr. Besse retained close links with the college in the decades that followed, as a patron and honorary vice-president of the United World Colleges movement.  Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this difficult time.

‘From the person who donated £20, to the person who donated £2000 - thank you. I am extremely grateful and indebted… I will do everything in my power to make sure that the contribution made is going to mean something more…’
