Here at UWC Atlantic College, we have just come to the end of our first ever UWC Sailing Regatta and what a time we have had -13 students from four UWC's making the most of an amazing weekend!
Atlantic Outdoors at UWC Atlantic College was proud to be the host of the first ever sailing regatta, where students and staff from different UWC schools came together to meet, share, learn and contribute to a stronger UWC community. The idea was introduced by two students from UWC Red Cross Nordic, Asbjørn W. Lauridsen and Ossian Procopé.
‘If the sailing can’t come to the fjords of Norway, then we have to take the sailing to Wales’ - OssianProcopé.
‘We want to create a stronger community between the UWC schools, what better way to create something than through a regatta’ - Asbjørn W Lauridsen.
The Regatta started on the 29 June and finished on the 02 July.
The sailing was based at locations along the coast of the Bristol Channel, close to the shores of UWC Atlantic College. Participating students were supervised by Pembrokeshire Performance Sailing Academy who are an accredited RYA training centre and are work in partnership with the College.
Hannah Bredero from UWC Maastricht was awarded the Admiral Desmond Hoare Trophy and a Kurt Hahn book. She showed the essence of the UWC values and also the commitment, effort, passion and motivation that Kurt Hahn would have referred to in his vision for young people.
