Associated Schools Programme and STEM

ASP students

UWC Atlantic’s Associated Schools Programme was established to broaden the College’s impact and to apply its unique educational philosophy and ethos more widely to young people from diverse backgrounds within the UK. To date, the programme has been delivered in partnership with five British comprehensive schools, including: the Broadway Academy in Birmingham; the Northern Schools Trust consortia of schools in Liverpool (including, North Liverpool Academy, Studio School, Life Sciences UCT); and the Lewis School in Pengam, South Wales.

Via scholarship opportunities, student exchanges and participation in UWC’s conference series, the programme has brought together staff and students to learn about youth leadership, initiative and authentic responsibility, team work, instilling community values and positive youth activism. We believe that in these challenging times in our world, the bringing together of young people from different cultures is of vital importance.

The most recent collaboration was UWC Atlantic’s student-led STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) conference. Rocket building, antibiotic resistance, artificial intelligence, cryptocurrencies, the ethics of space and geoengineering were just some of the subjects covered in the 54 workshops and talks on offer as part of the two days. We had fantastic presentations by three of our Liverpool partner schools focused upon DNA and Chromosomes, Aquaponics and The Battery that Never Dies.

‘From the person who donated £20, to the person who donated £2000 - thank you. I am extremely grateful and indebted… I will do everything in my power to make sure that the contribution made is going to mean something more…’
